If you’re anything like me, you put a lot of effort into trying to be the healthiest version of you…from daily workouts to eating well to getting enough sleep and drinking enough water. And while I may not be perfect in all areas every day, these health-focused routines and practices keep me feeling and performing my best.
But, because I’ve been focused on my health journey for so long, I’m acutely aware of the ways in which I could be better. I know I need more greens (fruits are easy for me…veggies, not so much). I could definitely pass on the cookies or chocolate a little more than I do (but where’s the fun in that?). I could stick closer to my macros on a more consistent basis. I could mix up my workouts more.
But while I know there’s always more that can be done, I wholly believe in balance. The key for each of us is finding where that tipping point is…the point where optimizing our health journey comes at a real cost. For me, saying no to s’mores with friends or the occasional bowl of ice cream, taking my own weighed and measured meals to family functions, or spending 1-2 extra hours in the gym each day just aren’t worth it. The sacrifice, at this point in my life, is not worth the reward (i.e. fewer body fat percentage points).
In a word, finding balance while still improving is seriously hard work. That’s why I was so excited when Nerium
and Signum Biosciences came out with the new Youth Factor products
as the company launched into the health and wellness industry! The aim with every new product Nerium launches is to give people simple, wholistic solutions based in scientific research. Based on their lineup of other products, I knew the research and clinical studies would be legit…I knew the products would work for the mass population…and I knew it’d be easy to integrate into my life. But, I was curious to see how the products would work for someone who has a pretty solid fitness and nutrition background. Would I really see a significant benefit, or would it only help people just starting on their health and wellness journey?
I decided to track my workout data for a full month to see what happened…because hardcore data is more reliable than anecdotal evidence (i.e. getting a readout of how many calories I burned each day vs rating how the workout “felt”). And you guys, my results blew. me. away!
What is Youth Factor?
These products are supposed to actually work at the cellular level, targeting the mitochondria to help your body perform in a more optimal state by better producing natural energy and fighting aging at the source. I don’t know of any other way to get my mitochondria working better, so I was all in!
There are also two patent-pending ingredients that make these products different than anything else you can find on the market. One ingredient, Complex NAA
, offers benefits on the inside and out, as it defends against free radical damage, supports the immune system, and actually reduces the appearance of wrinkles and brightens the skin. The other patent-pending ingredient, Youth Factor Enzyme
, helps support optimal bioavailability of antioxidants and polyphenols. What this means is that your body can actually absorb the nutrients you put in it, rather than peeing them out (many supplements do not come in forms that the body can access, so the vitamins pass right through you #expensivepee). Since the drink mix contains the nutrients of 3-4 servings of fruits and vegetables, the fact that there’s an ingredient to help you absorb those servings is definitely a win-win.
More Energy = Harder Workouts = Better Results
First of all, I definitely saw an increase in my daily energy while taking the Youth Factor products. I get up at 4:30 am, and after starting these supplements, I don’t have to take as many afternoon naps to make it through the day to dinner.
But what impressed me the most was the consistent improvement in my workouts. Over the course of four weeks, I was able to push harder for longer. And because my body started to produce energy better on its own, I never felt completely depleted after a workout. My recovery was great, and I was always ready to go for my next ride, allowing me to workout consistently throughout the week without feeling super sore.
Also, because I’ve been primarily spinning since late February, I had a good deal of “base” data to draw from. The bikes collect several types of data – milage ridden, calories burned, speed, resistance, power (measured in watts; found via a combination of speed and resistance), and time – making it simple to compare my averages over time.
In four weeks…
- my average power score increased by 24.16%
- my average miles ridden per minute increased by 55.8%
- my average calories burned per minute increased by 37.89%.
This is absolute insanity!
Think about it this way: my power went up, meaning that I was riding at a higher resistance AND speed more consistently. Because I was riding faster, I was able to ride farther within a set amount of time. And because I rode farther, faster, I burned more calories. Whereas I was burning 12.08 calories per minute when I started, I burned 16.67 calories per minute at the end of four weeks.
And isn’t that really a big part of the goal? When you are able to work out at a higher intensity and more efficiently, you burn more calories within a given timeframe. If you are fueling correctly, this is how body composition changes will occur. In fact, I just compared some before and after pictures (the day before starting Youth Factor vs Day 30), and my stomach is noticeably flatter and more defined. Let’s be honest…who doesn’t want that?!
The Benefits Don’t Stop There
While I would be perfectly content with that being the extent of the benefits I experienced, there’s so much more goodness to these products.
First, the products contain biotin – in a higher dosage than a biotin-specific supplement one of my friends has taken for years. My fingernails are growing much faster than usual (I have the pictures after a gel manicure to prove it), and my hair is feeling way thicker and healthier than it has in a long time.
Secondly, I can actually see the benefits of the Complex NAA coming through on my skin. I had a slight reduction in undereye circles, and the start of this summer’s underlying skin discoloration was erased. My skin tone evened out and became brighter.
And finally, I actually look forward to this drink every afternoon. It’s a little treat to break up all the plain water I drink…it tastes amazing, and gives me the boost I need to power through the afternoon without wanting to constantly snack on things.
Finding Your Balance
Listen, eating right is critical. I would never say that a drink could take care of all your nutritional needs – you need to get most of that through regularly eating fruits, vegetables, healthy fats, and protein. However, we all need a little help sometimes. We’re not perfect, and most of us are already taking an array of supplements to get closer to our goals (whatever those may be – performance, nutritional, etc).
I have found, over the last month, that these two products together are helping me do just that. They’re giving me the nutrients I miss out on on any given day. They’re helping my cells to operate at their most optimal level. They’re helping me to workout harder, longer. And they’re helping me burn off those extra cookies that I just can’t say no to because life is too short : )
In short, they’re helping me stay balanced while getting closer and closer to my fitness / body composition goals…and what’s not to love about that?
If you find yourself in the same boat as me and want a little bit more of that edge while still having room to enjoy life, you should definitely give these products a shot!
